Initial geoportal „geoSerbia“ was officially launched on 27 November 2009.
At the Seminar on the establishment of the National Spatial Data Infrastructure, that took place in Belgrade on 27 November 2009, initial geoportal „GeoSerbia“ was officially launched.
Republic Geodetic Authority, in cooperation with Statens kartverk, Norwegian Mapping and Cadastre Authority, within a Project “RGA-SK Twinning 2008 Project – phase 3, started with the initial activities on establishing of National Spatial Data Infrastructure in Serbia (NSDI), according to the current European initiatives and INSPIRE directive.
Basic functionalities of the geoportal are as follows:
Discovery services for metadata and view services for spatial data
Exchange and distribution of geodata within the NSDI
Public access and view of geoinformation from various sources
Multilingual interface (Serbian + English), open source solution
Promotion of NSDI
The following tasks are:
Increasing the scope, coverage and timeliness of RGA data
Collection of metadata for the INSPIRE themes from Annex I
Cooperation with other institutions in order to secure the data for the INSPIRE themes from Annex I
Increased usage of Web Map Service
Improvement of the functionality of geoportal
Cooperation on standardization
After five years of work of the initial geoportal it can be concluded that it has completely fulfilled its main task, and that is the promotion of the National Spatial Data Infrastructure.
From the modest 40000 hits per month in the first month, it came up to over 4.6 million hits in October of this year.
Initial geoportal has already been used for longer time than it was initially planned due to lack of funds, but for sure the establishment of the National geoportal will be the next step that is certain in the future.
